Import customer data

Import customer data

Discover how to easily import and export customer data for seamless program management, ensuring accurate records and smooth transitions when updating loyalty information.

Introduction

Joy Loyalty's customer data import and export features help you easily manage your customer data by exporting it into a CSV file, making necessary adjustments, and re-importing it seamlessly.

You can update customer points directly in the file, with positive values adding and negative values subtracting points. Additionally, you can add customers' birthday for consistency.

FAQ: Does adjusting a customer's points affect their tier status?

Currently, adjusting a customer's points does not affect their tier status.

The customer's tier will only change according to the settings in VIP Tier or if you manually adjust the tier on the customer's detailed information page.

Important note:

  • You must name the column 'Birthday(MM/DD)'.
  • You must enter data in the format MM/DD (xx month/ xx date), for example: 03/03 is the correct format, while 3/3 is incorrect.

Create Date and Expires At

Two optional date columns control when imported balances expire.

  • Create Date (points imports): the date the customer originally earned the points. Joy uses it to decide when the points expire. Leave it blank to use today's date. The column can also be named Created Date.
  • Expires At (store credit imports): the last day the customer can use the credit. It expires at the end of that day in your store's time zone. Leave it blank to use your default store credit expiration, if you set one. Rows with a negative amount remove credit and ignore this column.

Choose Create Date format or Expires At format (MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY) after you add the file. Every date in the column must use the format you pick.

If a date can't be read, the import stops and lists the affected rows, counting data rows only (the header row is not counted). Fix the rows, change the format, or remove the column to continue. An Expires At date that has already passed also blocks the import.

After import, the customer's activity shows Expires on under the points they earned, when point expiration is on.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I leave Create Date blank?

Joy uses today's date for those points.

Why does Joy warn me that point expiration is off?

Create Date only matters when point expiration is on. Turn point expiration on before you import if you want these points to expire on their own schedule.

Will points with an old Create Date expire right away?

Yes, if the date is older than your expiration period. Those points expire at the next expiration run, right after import. Joy shows how many rows are affected before you import.

What happens when I turn point expiration on later?

Joy asks you to confirm in Turn on point expiration? and shows how many points are already past their expiration date. They are removed at the next expiration run. Select Cancel to leave expiration off.

Why was my file blocked?

The most common cause is a date that doesn't match the selected format, for example 15/03/2024 under MM/DD/YYYY. Switch the format or fix the listed rows.
